Frequent Questions - The official web site of Chawton, Hants, UK Wed, 24 May 2017 02:15:15 +0000 Joomla! 1.5 - Open Source Content Management en-gb Funding is run for the benefit of residents and visitors. Our aim is to provide information that is relevant to the residents of Chawton today and to provide information on our proud heritage.

We have been running since 2006 and receive some of our funding from the Chawton and Farringdon Village magazine, in return we provide advertising for the local businesses who advertise in the Village magazine. However, since Chawton is a small Village and the web site is not related to any of the historic attractions, it receives no other funding, hence there is a shortfall in funding each year.

We make up the difference via PayPal donations. You don't need to have a PayPal account to donate to us, since PayPal accepts all major credit and debit cards. To simplify donations, we have provided several suggested amounts on the buttons below. You may of course donate any other amount, or just use the web site for free. Our simple dilemma is that if we cannot cover our costs each year, then we can't provide this service to you.

Please note that PayPal charges us varying amounts, which it takes from the amount you donate. Their charges to us are around 4% + 20 pence (£0.20), plus a currency conversion charge of 2.5% above the exchange rate if you are not paying in sterling (GBP). For this reason, donations of less than £5 do not result in a real funds reaching

To donate £10 (GBP), which is around $12 (USD) or €11 (EUR), please use this button

To donate £20, (GBP), which is around $24 (USD) or €22 (EUR) , please use this button

To donate any other amount, please use this button

Thank you for your support.

Problems Logging In We are currently aware of an issue when attempting to log into the site using the Login Form on the left of the page. Users are presented with an error page. This is due to a security module that we use.

Until we have resolved this issue, please re-enter your details on the second page that comes up and ensure that you enter the text shown in the red CAPACHA box. You will then be able to log in successfully.

Once you are logged in, the Logon Form on the left hand side will change to show your user name.

Adding and event to the calendar ImageThe village calendar lists all events that are being held locally in and around the area.

If you have an event that you would like to add to the calendar, you must first be a registered user

Once you have registered and logged in, you will be presented with an “Add Event” button on the calendar, use this to provide information on the event you would like added.

Be sure to enter

  • A title summarising the event
  • A brief description of the event and its location
  • A category (from the list)
  • The time and date it starts and finishes
  • Contact details - phone, e-mail, etc.
  • Any charges for the event (free entry, entry charge for individuals, families, etc).

Submissions without this information will be rejected.

You can also submit a picture to provide more information on the event, for example a poster or other such advertising.

Once an event has been added, it will be approved by one of a number of site managers after they have contacted you. This step is performed to prevent spurious entries from being listed and to preserve the accuracy of the calendar.

Advertising with this site If you advertise in the village magazine as a business, you get the option to advertise on this site as part of the overall cost, or just to advertise on the web site if your adverts aren't relevant to the village. The fees helps us to cover the costs of providing the site. It is not possible to advertise on this site without going via the village magazine.
