Bridge Installed

Print PDF

After many months in the planning, we are happy to announce that the replacement bridge over the stream on the recreational ground has now been fitted and the ground works completed, bar a little grass seed.

The Parish Council started this project back in spring 2013 when the previous sleeper based bridge broke away and floated off - thus preventing access to the Cricketers, walkers and school children who all regularly use the access.

We've had to overcome many hurdles, such as tree stumps in the line of the path; queries over potential impacts on flooding; obtaining approval from the Environment Agency to replace the bridge; locating a suitable bridge supplier and the flood waters which came up in the winter of 2013 and only subsided in June 2014, thereby preventing the preparatory ground works.

We are therefore happy to reinstate the previous access. The new bridge includes some enhancements such as providing disabled and pushchair access to the pavilion, its got sides and handrails to improve safety when people cross and its fixed down to some large concrete bases to prevent it moving in any future winter weather.

We would like to thanks the following companies for their help in the completion of this project

We hope you like the end result and would like to hear your feedback.
