Fireworks 2015

Print PDF

Chawton is once again holding its popular bonfire and fireworks event on Saturday 7th of November.

The event is held at Chawton Cricket club, behind the main recreational ground.

We open at 5:30 for food, drinks and sparklers. The bonfire will be lit at 6:30 with the fireworks following once the bonfire is going well and people have stopped arriving.

The event will feature :

  • The Bonfire
  • Free sparklers for children
  • Glow-bands for children
  • Hot and cold drinks - tea, coffee, soft drinks and a bar
  • Hot food - BBQ (courtesy of the scouts), hot dogs & soup
  • The fireworks
  • First Aid with St Johns Ambulance

As per last year, we will have plenty of people serving food and drinks, plus we've provide plenty of time to get your food and drink before the main event.

Due to significant increases in attendance, which causes parking and access problems - at the limit of what we can safely provide due to the Village layout;  yet at the same time our takings are barely covering the event, we are now a ticket only event. This is necessary to maintain the viability of the event in the coming years.

Tickets are purchased on the gate at a cost of £5 per adult, accompanied children who are clearly under 16 are free. You may still donate more if you wish. The more we take on the day, the more we spend on next years display. There will be two entrances, one each end of the recreational ground leading to the bridges. Exact cash on the gate is welcome - to allow us to process your entry more quickly. Tickets are not available in advance.

Please note that there will be no public viewing from outside the enclosed area and the fireworks will be launched from a different location this year. There will also be barriers and security to prevent access to certain areas, follow the directions of our marshals.

We have very limited parking available, so if you can, please walk from Alton or park in an Alton car park and walk from there (20 minute walk). Very limited free parking is provided in the village car park, on-street and in the dead end past the school. Please do not park in the pub car park unless you are planning to eat there. You can help reduce the impact by walking or car sharing. You must follow the guidance of our marshals and park considerately. Do not block the main road or move the bollards as we need to maintain emergency vehicle access.

Pedestrian access is either via the village car park by the Pub or opposite the school.

If you wish to bring your own sparklers, these must be lit in the designated area - to prevent burns to others and to help minimise the clear up the following day.

If you have materials for the bonfire, please take these to "Simons strip" (by the stream). Please remove or bang flat any exposed nails or screws. no plastics or glass.

We are building the bonfire during the morning from about 9:00am and our annual clear-up takes place from 9:00 on the Sunday morning, all are welcome to come along and help. Its a great way to meet local people and help the community.

Don't forget to give us feedback so we can be even better next year. Click here
