Voices from 1900 to 2000

ImageThe Chawton Heritage Society has allowed their "memories, recollections and anecdotes of the people of Chawton" to be made public for the benefit of the village and as a way of preserving the village history.

The files in this area are encoded in MP3 format and you can listen to the recollections of the 1900's to the year 2000 by clicking on play button to the left of each player.

Pub car park - parking changes

ImageOngoing parking problems within the village have resulted in additional measures being introduced to the Greyfriar's pub car park - by the introduction of wheel clamping

Peter Whitehead, publican at the Greyfriar explains the reasons for this change.


BBC gardener of the year

ImageFarringdon residents Lorraine Mills and David Williams had their 15 minutes of fame when they took part in the BBC Gardener of the Year 2006 competition.

Lorraine entered the competition last summer and after a barrage of horticultural questions and a visit from the BBC found herself in the final.


Chawton Open Gardens 9th & 10th June 2007

 A unique opportunity to visit a wide variety of gardens in this historic village, including the newly restored gardens of Chawton House, once the home of Jane Austen’s brother, and the Jane Austen’s House Garden. In addition up to fifteen other charming and varied village gardens, large and small. 

Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th June, from 1pm - 5.30pm 

Tickets may be purchased on the day at the village hall - £5 Adults  - Accompanied Children Free

Pemberley Place

The developer Banner Homes have provided some artists impressions and information of the forthcoming houses on the site being marketed as Pemberley Place, a name clearly designed to relate to the heritage of our village.
